Description
The Newseum is a museum dedicated to "news" or journalism in the United States, and is located in Washington, DC. The First Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees free speech and freedom of the press, is boldly inscribed on the front of the building. It reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peacefully to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The Newseum is prominently located on Pennsylvania Avenue, across the street from the National Gallery of Art and five blocks from the United States Capitol, in Washington. The large, 7-floor, 250,000 square-foot building was completed and opened in 2008. (A popular feature of the Newseum, which is not in this photograph, is its display along the sidewalk outside the building of current newspapers from every state and several countries. It is a fun place to read the daily news from all over the world.)
