Artist's Description
The painter stepped away from his easel long enough for me to photograph both his work, and the painting on the gallery's wall that he was replicating (unfortunately I did not get his name). I do not know if most art museums in the world allow painters to come in with their own easel and canvas to paint a famous painting, but at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. it is commonplace.
The painting on the wall is "Miss Juliana Willoughby" by George Romney around 1782. If I am doing my math correctly, in 2012 she is 230 years old. What an high honor it would be to have someone reproducing an artistic work of mine a couple of centuries after it was created. When I saw this today a big smile came over my face, and I hope Mr. Romney was looking down and smiling as well at the sight of a painting of his painting.
