Artist's Description
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was dedicated on Sunday, October 16, 2011, in Washington, D.C., with an estimated quarter of a million people in attendance. The memorial was dedicated by Barack Obama, the first African-American President.
Martin Luther King, Jr. is the most famous civil rights leader in United States history, and became a martyr for the cause when he was assassinated by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968.
The memorial is on the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial where King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech nearly fifty years ago. It is the first major memorial on the mall for a man who was never President of the United States. This is fitting because if King had lived, he may very well have become our first African-American President.

I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
