We knew him as Bobby Kennedy, but young people today probably know him as Robert Kennedy, a brother of assassinated president John Kennedy. Bobby was shot fifty years ago tomorrow and died in the early hours of June 6, 1963. His assassination was five years after the death of his brother, President Kennedy. It was a terrible time for those of us who lived through it. First, the death of President Kennedy was unfathomable, a true American tragedy, and those of us of a certain age remember exactly what we were doing when we heard that the President had been shot. Then five years later in 1968 Bobby ran for the Democratic nomination to be President of the United States, and on the night of June 5, 1968, after winning the California primary he was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. I have a vivid memory of watching this on television. When I venture over to Arlington National Cemetery, I usually visit the Kennedy grave site, first pausing at the grave of President Kennedy,...
I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
