Description
A sentry guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, also known as the Tomb of the Unknowns, in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, DC. There are four unknown soldiers entombed here, the first and original was from World War I, followed by two for World War II, each representing one of the two hemispheres the war was fought in (Atlantic and Pacific), and the fourth is from the Korean War. There was a fifth unknown soldier from the Vietnam War, but in the late 1990s DNA revealed his identity and his family asked that his body be removed from the tomb so that he could be buried back home.
