Description
The chapel in Oak Hill Cemetery was built in 1849 by the famous architect James Renwick, who also designed the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall, and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. The bust monument in front of the chapel is of John Howard Payne, the author of the popular early American song "Home, Sweet Home," which he composed around 1820, before he embarked on his illustrious diplomatic career. The historic cemetery is on R Street in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC.
