The Church of the Good Shepherd is in the heart of Beverly Hills, California. The parish was founded in 1923 and construction of the church was completed in 1925. Its Mission Revival style was designed by architect James J. Donnellan. The Catholic church has been the house of worship for some of Hollywood’s greatest celebrities and has seen many high-profile weddings and funerals. In this church Elizabeth Taylor married her first husband, Conrad Hilton, Loretta Young wed Tom Lewis, and Mark Warhlberg married Rhea Durham, to name just a few of its famous nuptials. Some of the funerals that occurred here were for Rudolph Valentino, Carmen Miranda, Gary Cooper, Alfred Hitchcock, Rita Hayworth, and Danny Thomas. For movie buffs, the Church of the Good Shepherd was the location for the funeral scene in the film “A Star Is Born” starring Judy Garland and James Mason.
I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
