Description
This is one of 24 lampposts on the William Howard Taft Bridge, named for the 27th President of the United States, in Washington, DC. The lampposts are topped with an American eagle with its wings spread. The Taft Bridge, which is part of Connecticut Avenue, crosses over a gorge in Rock Creek Park, and connects the neighborhoods of Dupont Circle to its west with Woodley Park to its east. The bridge was built between 1897 and 1907, and the lampposts were made near the completion of the bridge, around 1906, by sculptor Ernest Bairstow.
