Artist's Description

In Greek mythology, Naiads were beautiful nymphs (female spirits) who presided over fresh bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers and streams. The most famous sculpture of a Naiad was made by Antonio Canova around 1820. The marble sculpture is a star attraction at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where it was photographed.
