Artist's Description

John Jay was a Founding Father of the United States, and the country's first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He was also one of the three writers of the "Federalist Papers," along with Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. This is an "up close" photograph of a portrait of John Jay painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1794. If you would like to see an image of the complete painting, a photograph of it precedes this one in my gallery and can be accessed by clicking on the above "PREV" (for "Previous"). The painting was photographed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
