Artist's Description
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery is on a hill overlooking Washington, DC. It was established in 1921 to honor an unknown soldier from World War I, and was followed by two soldiers from World War II (one for each of the two hemispheres the war was fought in), and then a soldier from the Korean War. There was an unknown soldier from the Vietnam War, but DNA revealed his identity in 1998 and his family had his body removed so he could be buried back home. This photograph shows the western side of the white marble sarcophagus, and inscribed on it is the following: "Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God".

I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
