Artist's Description
The J. Edgar Hoover Federal Bureau of Investigations Building is in downtown Washington, D.C. The building was dedicated on September 30, 1975, and is named for J. Edgar Hoover, the first Director of the FBI who served for 37 years from 1935 until his death in 1972. The large structure has 2.8 million square feet and sits on 6.6 acres midway between the White House and the U.S. Capitol. But extensive negotiations are currently underway to move the FBI to a less "cramped" location in suburban Washington, requiring a minimum of fifty acres, and possible square footage in excess of one billion in a newly built headquarters. The completion date is planned for the year 2023.
