Description
This statue of Ulysses S. Grant guards the western base of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. General Grant, who is credited with winning the Civil War for the Union, was later elected President and served two terms from 1869 until 1877. This lofty statue of Grant on horseback is the centerpiece of a large memorial to the eighteenth President that was built over a twenty year period in the early 1900s. The memorial was dedicated on April 27, 1922, the 100th anniversary of Grant's birth.
This photograph is dedicated to the officers of the various law enforcement agencies that were involved recently in protecting the White House, the Capitol, and all of the people in between.
