Description
John Cavanaugh was a sculptor in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC, where I live. His work is throughout the neighborhood, often as relief sculptures on the edifice of buildings, or as stand alones such as in the garden of the Woman's National Democratic Club at New Hampshire Avenue and Q Street, also in Dupont Circle. This sculpture is "Standing Woman" and is in the garden of the women's club. Cavanaugh was a beloved member of our community and was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Dupont Circle". He died at the age of 64 at his home and studio on 18th Street in our neighborhood.
