Description
"Greek Slave" is a famous sculpture by American sculptor Hiram Powers. It was made around 1848. The marble sculpture is a full-length female nude and was controversial in the mid-1800s because such nudity had not yet been seen in American art. (Photographs of the complete sculpture are also in my Collection.) This photograph is a close-up of the Greek Slave’s upper body, particularly her face and naked breasts. The sculpture was photographed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
