Description
This historic Georgetown sign, once part of the marquee of the Georgetown Movie Theater at 1351 Wisconsin Avenue, has been in the heart of the busy Georgetown business district in Washington, DC since the late 1940s. The movie theater closed in 1986, and over the next couple of decades the neglected sign slowly fell apart and ended up in a state of great disrepair. Robert Bell, an architect and Georgetown resident, decided to renovate the iconic symbol to its original beauty, which was completed around 2010. The sign has been a landmark in the heart of Georgetown for nearly seventy years -- during its good days and bad -- and thanks to Mr. Bell for its return in this new millennium to the good ole' days of the mid-1900s.
