In this photograph it appears that the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands alone in Arlington National Cemetery. But in actuality, and not seen in this photo, the tomb is guarded at all times, with the famous ritual of the Changing of the Guard occurring either every half hour or hour, depending on the time of day and the season. But to look up at the tomb from its back side, with its three Greek figures representing Peace, Victory and Valor, is a nice change of perspective. Arlington National Cemetery is our nation’s premier military cemetery and is located in Arlington, Virginia, a short distance across the Potomac River from Washington, DC.
I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
