Description
The National Museum of African-American History and Culture (NMAAHC) opened on September 24, 2016 in a ceremony led by President Barack Obama, with former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton present. NMAAHC is a Smithsonian Institution museum that tells the African-American experience -- its history and culture -- beginning in the early days of slavery to modern-day America. It is located near the Washington Monument on a corner of the national mall at 15th Street and Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC.
This photograph captures the intricate bronze lattice that surrounds the exterior of the museum. It reminds me of the lattice that southern cities like New Orleans had on their buildings in the 1800s, during the days of slavery.
