Description
This historic building is clearly visible to people passing by the White House on its north side, or Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, DC. It stands proudly on the corner of New York Avenue and 15th Street, facing in the direction of the executive mansion. The building's distinctive Queen Anne architecture was designed by James H. Windrim, and built in 1888. A plaque on its outer wall proclaims that the "National Savings and Trust Company" was "the oldest savings institution in the city" and the second oldest bank. Today the building is occupied by SunTrust Banks of Atlanta, Georgia.
