Description
The Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington, D.C., was dedicated by President George W. Bush on June 12, 2007, the twentieth anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's famous "Tear Down This Wall" speech in front of the Berlin Wall. Inscribed on the pedestal that supports the woman with a torch are the words, "To the more than one hundred million victims of communism and to those who love liberty." The memorial is located at the intersection of Massachusetts and New Jersey Avenues, and G Street, N.W. From the memorial site there is a clear view of the United States Capitol a few blocks away.
