This sunrise silhouette of Washington, DC, was photographed from the top step of the Lincoln Memorial (one of the best views of Washington is from this particular vantage point). The tall Washington Monument is unmistakable. But if you study the dark horizon, you can see about half of the Capitol dome showing low along the right side of the obelisk; the tower near the left border of the image is part of the Old Post Office building that Donald Trump has a lease on to operate a hotel (his lease does not include the entire building, particularly the tower, which is managed by the National Park Service and is open for free to the public); you can also see the dome of the Library of Congress, which is to the right of the Washington Monument, and the dome of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum on the left side of the monument. I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
