Description
This clock is in the Main Hall of Union Station in Washington, DC. Union Station is the city’s main transportation hub, and is the center for subway and all rail traffic, including Amtrak train service up the busy “eastern corridor” with stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. The station, which was built in 1907 and is to the immediate north side of the United States Capitol, was its busiest during World War II when an average of 200,000 passengers a day traveled through the Main Hall and looked up at this clock to see what time it was. Union Station is still one of the busiest, and largest, train stations in America.
