Rear Admiral Richard Worsam Meade, Jr. fought for the Union in the American Civil War, and had a distinguished career in the Navy after the war as he helped lead the country through essential military reforms and technological advances, largely down from his post at the United States Naval Academy. He died in 1897 at the age of 59 and this bust of him is at his grave site in Arlington National Cemetery in suburban Washington, DC. (He was the son of Captain Richard Worsam Meade, also of the United States Navy.)
